These are not opinion rankings. Nobody at SPIN picks who is No. 1. POP, Production Over Potential, is calculated from what each player has actually done this season, game by game, from the box scores of his games, weighed for who he did it against and where. Stars, offers, highlight tapes and reputation are not in the math. Two things are: what he produced, and the competition he produced it against.
That is why big numbers against weak opponents do not rank high here, and why a big game against a great opponent is the most valuable thing on these boards. Consistency counts too: a full season of steady games is worth more than one monster night surrounded by quiet ones. The rules are set before the numbers come in, and they apply to every player in every region the same way.
Below: the Top 10 at every position through Week 10, games of Oct. 14 to 16 included, plus the Two-Way board. The full Top 25 at every position, the Top 10 for every classification and every rated player in the state live on the Player Rankings tab, updated every Wednesday.
What changed this week
New No. 1 at wide receiver. Dennis Tuaone of Timpview (94) moves ahead of Bode Sparrow of Davis after seven catches for 127 yards and an 80-yard rushing touchdown against Spanish Fork. Xander Thayer of Mountain Ridge moves from No. 4 to No. 2 (94, up from 93) on six catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns in the 21-13 win over Westlake. Sparrow is No. 3 at 93 after a one-catch night in the 52-6 win over Weber, and he holds No. 1 on the Two-Way board (92).
New No. 1 at tight end. Russell Jacobs of Pine View moves from No. 4 to No. 1 (93, up from 91) after eight catches for 94 yards and a touchdown against Crimson Cliffs. Steeler Wesley of Skyridge, Christian Hanshaw of American Fork and Thayne Boyle of Farmington follow at 92.
Noah Fiefia, Ridgeline, holds No. 1 at running back (94) after 24 carries for 372 yards and seven touchdowns, one of them a 95-yard run, in the 56-30 win over Bear River. Filisi Filipe of Herriman is No. 2 at 93.
Sam Coleman, Davis, enters two boards. He is No. 8 among defensive backs (95) and No. 2 on the Two-Way board (91) after an interception returned 101 yards for a touchdown, a 79-yard kickoff return touchdown and two pass breakups against Weber.
Major Stokes, Orem, moves from No. 5 to No. 2 on the defensive line (95, up from 94) on six tackles, five for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble in the 47-0 win over Maple Mountain. Wyatt Warner of Corner Canyon holds No. 1 at 99, the only 99 in the state, after two tackles for loss and a sack in the 34-7 win over Lehi.
Cole Uluave, Mountain Ridge, moves to 98 at linebacker (up from 97) on seven tackles, four for loss, against Westlake. Kingston Stroshine of Lone Peak moves from No. 3 to No. 2 (96).
Jaxon Hunt holds No. 1 at quarterback (96) on 225 passing yards and three touchdowns against Westlake. Jagger Fountaine of Skyridge moves from No. 3 to No. 2 (92) after 232 yards in the 21-15 win over American Fork. Carter Payne of Weber moves from No. 10 to No. 5 (89), and Bryson Sweeney of Herriman enters the Top 10 at No. 9 (89) on 299 passing yards and four touchdowns against Cedar Valley.
Tyson Dunn, Mountain Ridge, enters at No. 5 among running backs (89) on 114 rushing yards and a receiving touchdown against Westlake; he reached the five-game line this week. Cam Wren of Lehi (wide receiver, No. 8), Blake Weston of Ogden (tight end, No. 10), Logan Gregory of Herriman (defensive back, No. 10), Darius Fue of Copper Hills (linebacker, No. 9), Bridger Dunn of Lone Peak and Jag Ioane of Orem (defensive line, No. 9 and No. 10) and Kava Fiefia of Farmington (Two-Way, No. 8) are the other new names in a Top 10.
Coaches, post your box scores. POP can only count what gets recorded. American Fork has not posted a box score for three straight games, through the Oct. 14 loss at Skyridge, so Noah Behm, Christian Hanshaw, Cash Taiese and Dalin Afu are rated on eight games, and Jake Matsen on seven, while most of the state is on nine or ten. Grantsville and Parowan did not post their Week 10 box score while their opponent did, Timpanogos posted offense only, and neither side posted for Millard against Gunnison Valley. When a program posts no box score, or logs only part of what its players did, those players lose credit for work they actually did. Post full box scores, offense and defense, every week. If a stat is wrong, tell us and show us; the corrected rating shows on the next board.

How to read the number
A POP rating runs 25 to 99 on one national scale, so a 94 in Utah means the same thing as a 94 in Southern California. GP is games with a posted stat line. Two-Way players must be rated on an offensive board and a defensive board; the Two-Way number is built from both sides.
