The same twenty five teams, in a different order
Nobody came on and nobody came off. Twenty five teams played or sat out a week, and every one of them is still inside the footprint's share of the national hundred, or in one of the two editorial seats at the bottom.
The order moved, though, and it moved for the reason it is supposed to. Out West is extracted from the SPIN Power 100 in national order. When Gorman went from 12th to 10th nationally and Mater Dei went from 10th to 19th, the two swapped here before anybody at this desk had a say in it. De La Salle, which beat St. Mary's of Stockton 44-7, is 18th nationally and fifth here, up one. St. John Bosco, which went to Honolulu and beat St. Louis 63-21, is 12th nationally and fourth here, up one.
The one that fell ten
Centennial of Peoria beat Mesa 20-7 on Friday. It is 4-0. It fell from 13th on this board to 23rd.
That is not a misprint and it is not a punishment for winning. Centennial dropped to 90th on the Power 100, and 90th in the country is 23rd in this footprint, ahead of only the two editorial seats. The Arizona board has the full argument, and the short version is that the desk priced Chandler and Pinnacle, both 3-1, above a Centennial team whose best win is over a Mountain View of Mesa side that came off the Arizona board this week. Chandler is 17th here and Pinnacle is 19th. Both are ahead of Centennial for the first time on this board.
The record that changed on a Monday night
Cherry Creek beat Valor Christian 16-15 on Friday night in Highlands Ranch. It was 4-0 on Saturday morning.
It is 3-1 on this board, and the loss is not to Valor. On Monday night the Colorado High School Activities Association ruled that Cherry Creek must forfeit its season opening win over Chatfield, and the school's appeal was denied. The news broke Tuesday. The 28-15 win over Chatfield is a loss in the standings now, and the streak that was reported at 31 on Friday night is recorded as having ended at 27.
Cherry Creek moves up two here anyway, to 12th, because the Power 100 moved it from 39th to 32nd on the results through Saturday, and this board follows the Power 100. Our Power 100 still carries the 4-0. It will be corrected. The forfeit does not change what happened at Valor Stadium, and it does not change where the desk has the team. It changes the number in the record column, and that column is fixed here.
Utah's unbeaten one is 13th and Utah's best is 10th
Mountain Ridge is 6-0 after going to Temecula and scoring 54 on Chaparral. It is 36th nationally and 13th here, up two. Corner Canyon, which beat Lone Peak 37-14 and carries a loss to Liberty of Peoria, is 25th nationally and 10th here, up one.
That is the Utah board's order too, Corner Canyon first and Mountain Ridge second. Corner Canyon's loss is to a team that sits 11th on this board. Mountain Ridge's best win is a 41-26 over Skyridge in its August opener, and Skyridge is 18th here. Both cards hold up. The two teams sit where they sit until they play each other.
The far end of the footprint
Mililani beat Kahuku 28-6 on Saturday night at home, is 6-0, and moves up one to 16th at 46th nationally. It is the only Hawaii team on the board, and Kahuku is not a small win in Hawaii.
Puyallup went to Lake Stevens and won 43-42 in overtime on a two point conversion. It is 3-0, 89th nationally and 22nd here, up one. West Linn beat Wilsonville 49-20 and is 3-0. The two editorial seats swapped this week: West Linn is 24th and Orem, which did not play and is 3-2, is 25th.
Those three teams have played twelve games between them, and Mililani has played six of them by itself. The calendar problem this board wrote about last week is still a calendar problem. Nobody is being ranked on it.
What this board is
Rows one through twenty three are the SPIN Power 100, filtered to Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, in national order. The desk does not hand adjust them. Rows twenty four and twenty five are editorial picks, because the footprint has twenty three teams inside the national hundred and the board has twenty five seats.
