The Arizona board this week has an unbeaten team in fifth and a one loss team in second, and the one loss team just lost to the team in sixth. Read that twice. Then read why.
Liberty at Basha, and the neutral field
Basha beat Liberty of Peoria 30-22 in Chandler on Friday. Liberty is 3-1. Basha is 2-2. The scoreboard says Basha, and on this board Basha still sits below Liberty.
Here is the whole argument. Liberty's one loss came on the road, by eight, to a team playing at home. Liberty's best win is over Corner Canyon, the No. 1 team in Utah and 25th in the country. Basha's two losses are on its card whether or not Friday happened. Put the two teams on a neutral field tomorrow and we take Liberty, so Liberty stays second and drops nine places nationally to 31st, where the loss is priced. Basha moves up one to sixth, and stays off the national board.
Centennial of Peoria is 4-0 and fifth
Centennial beat Mesa 20-7 and drops two places. Nobody likes reading that sentence. It is not about Mesa. Centennial's best win is a 27-3 over Mountain View of Mesa on September 11, and Mountain View lost to Brophy on Friday and came off this board. The other three wins are over teams that are not on any SPIN board. Chandler beat ALA Queen Creek 37-21 and moves to third, 50th nationally. Pinnacle beat Queen Creek 28-7 on the road and moves to fourth, 75th nationally. Both carry a loss, and on a neutral field this week the desk takes both over Centennial. Centennial is 90th on the Power 100. Beat somebody with a number next to its name, one that keeps the number, and this changes fast.
Two new teams, and both earned it the direct way
Brophy College Prep beat Mountain View of Mesa 31-28. Mountain View was fifth. ALA Gilbert North beat Desert Edge 33-30. Desert Edge was eighth. Both winners come on, Brophy at seventh and ALA Gilbert North at eighth, and Mountain View comes off. Desert Edge falls two to 10th and keeps its place, because a three point loss is a three point loss and the card underneath it still holds up. Williams Field lost 31-28 at Red Mountain and comes off.
Hamilton beat Casteel 44-25, is 4-0, stays first and is 21st in the country. Desert Mountain beat Mountain Pointe 54-0 and holds ninth.

Read it a third time
An unbeaten team in fifth. A one loss team in second. Three games this week decided by three points or fewer, and every one of them moved the board. Arizona is not confusing. It is just honest about who has beaten whom.
