Coronado put the ball in a freshman's hands on Friday night and beat Foothill 34-27. Beau Ventling played quarterback, and Matthias Rantissi carried 25 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns. The Cougars are 5-1 and move up two places to fourth.

Mater Academy East's first loss came in Sacramento
Mater Academy East of Las Vegas went to Grant in Sacramento and lost 35-28. It is Mater East's first loss, and it is 4-1. A seven-point road loss to a good California team is not a bad loss, and Mater East drops one place to fifth, not further.
Liberty won 38-0 and slips one
Liberty of Henderson beat Las Vegas 38-0 and is 4-2. It drops one place to sixth, and not because of anything it did on Friday. Coronado passed it with a win over a ranked team, and Mater East, with one loss, stays a spot ahead of a two-loss Liberty.
The top three held
Bishop Gorman beat Faith Lutheran 45-3 on homecoming night and holds first. It is 5-1 and 10th in the country. Gorman does not play this Friday. Its next game is against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, seventh on this board, on October 9. Churchill County won 47-24 at Spring Creek and Palo Verde beat Silverado 22-6. Both are 6-0 and hold second and third.
Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, Legacy of North Las Vegas and Damonte Ranch all won by at least 25 points and hold seventh, eighth and tenth.
