Bishop Gorman went to Highland, Utah, led 28-7 at half and won 38-14. It is 3-1, it is 12th in the country, and it is still the only Nevada team anywhere on our national board.
That gap is the whole shape of this state. First place is not in question. Everything from second down is.

The north is taking up more of this board
Churchill County is 4-0 after a 47-21 win over Truckee and is northern Nevada's best team by a distance. Damonte Ranch comes on at seventh at 3-0, with wins by 41, 29 and 55 and a 36-7 at Carson. Between them and Palo Verde at third, three of the top seven now sit outside the Las Vegas valley.
Mater Academy East Las Vegas moves up two on a 51-20 win over University City. It is unbeaten and it passed two teams that lost, which is the cleanest kind of promotion there is.
Two losses that cost almost nothing
Liberty of Henderson lost 24-20 at home to Skyridge, which is Utah's third-ranked team. That is a four-point defeat to a good side and it says very little that is bad. What holds Liberty at ninth is the 1-2 record, not the manner of it.
Foothill of Henderson holds at sixth. Its Sept 5 result against Mililani of Hawaii now counts, so the record reads 2-1 and the loss is to a nationally ranked team. The 28-24 win over Spanish Springs is still the best result on the bottom half of this board.
Coronado of Henderson enters at tenth off a bye. It beat Canyon Springs 55-14 and Lancaster 42-16, and its only loss is 7-0 to Centennial in Week 0.
Faith Lutheran is up two at eighth on a 35-31 win over Damien of California, the only out-of-state win anybody on this board owns this week.
