Eight Utah Games, Eight Blowouts, and Twenty-One Points Between All Eight Losers

Five shutouts. The other three losers scored exactly seven. Nobody in this state was tested on Friday.

Utah's board played eight games on Friday night and won all eight.

The eight losing teams scored 21 points between them. Five of them did not score at all. The other three scored exactly seven each.

That is not a typo and it is not a quirk of one lopsided night. It is the whole slate.

Three hundred and seventy-seven points to 21.

The only board team that lost was playing another one

Timpview went to Highland and lost 41-0 to Lone Peak. Those are the ninth and eighth teams on our board respectively, and it is the only game all night that put two ranked Utah teams on the same field.

Timpview is 2-2 now. It is also the only Utah team on this board with a losing week, which tells you how little separation Friday produced anywhere else.

Corner Canyon looked like Corner Canyon again

The Chargers came in 3-1 and the 1 was a 38-24 loss at Liberty of Peoria on September 4, which dropped them to 28th in the country.

They led Eastwood 17-7 at half and scored 35 unanswered after it. Diesel Dart caught touchdowns of 30 and 73 yards from Jaxon Pehrson, Jackson Carruth scored three, and Matt Watts returned an interception 18 yards for a score in the fourth.

Dart went on our preseason All-American board in August and he has spent September looking like the reason we put him there.

Corner Canyon is 4-1 and remains first in Utah, which it has been throughout, including through the loss, because nobody in this state has beaten it.

What Friday did not tell us

Very little, and that is the point worth making, not dressing up.

West of Salt Lake City played Thursday and beat Brighton 56-13. Eight more teams beat opponents who between them managed less than three points a game. The next time this board learns anything about itself is the next time two of its teams play each other, and on Friday that happened once.

Ridgeline is 5-0 and scored 62. Herriman is 5-0. Mountain Ridge is 5-0. Three unbeaten teams sit at second, seventh and ninth, and none of them has yet played a team that could prove the order wrong.
