Brother Rice 31, Catholic Central 25. Saturday night, 7:30 p.m. ET, at Catholic Central. Six points, and the visitors from Bloomfield Hills carried them out of Novi.
That makes it an upset on paper, and the paper matters here. Catholic Central sat 68th in the SPIN Power 100 on the Oct. 20 board, down 2 from 66th, while Brother Rice arrived without a number next to its name on any board we print. Those are the two things we know for certain going in, and the second one stopped mattering somewhere before the final whistle.
Six is a strange margin. Close enough that nobody in the building relaxed, wide enough that it never quite felt like a coin flip either. Thirty-one points is a real evening's work. Twenty-five is not nothing in response.
The board says 68th. The scoreboard said Brother Rice.
