Tabor Academy Beats Oak Ridge in the Only Loss on the NorCal Top 10

How the SPIN NorCal Top 10 fared in Week 9. Folsom got UCLA commit Rob Larson back and is 7-0 heading to Oak Ridge, Central East is 6-0, and Serra beat Archbishop Mitty 49-14.

Tabor Academy of Massachusetts flew across the country and beat Oak Ridge 20-17 on Friday night in El Dorado Hills, the only loss by a team on the SPIN NorCal Top 10 this week. Oak Ridge is 4-2.

Folsom beat Whitney 49-25 and is 7-0. Central East shut out Clovis 27-0 and is 6-0. De La Salle did not play and is 6-0.

Folsom also got three seniors back in the lineup against Whitney: running back and linebacker Joseph Eyerman, safety Daniel Eagleton and receiver Rob Larson. Larson, a UCLA commit who is on the SPIN preseason All-American watch list, missed the first six games with a hamstring injury, which the Folsom Times first reported in September. In his season debut he had six catches for 148 yards.

Larson is a big, physical receiver with plenty of speed and an enormous catch radius, and his size lets him break tackles after the catch, which he did several times on Friday. He caught 82 passes for 1,146 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. He is a difference maker for the Folsom offense, and the Bulldogs will want him at full strength this week.

Serra beat Archbishop Mitty 49-14 on Saturday afternoon and is 5-1.

Del Oro beat Jesuit 35-30. Cardinal Newman won 40-0 at San Marin, Pittsburg beat Liberty of Brentwood 41-19, Buchanan won 45-28 at Clovis West, and Grant won 57-0 at McClatchy.

Next. Two Top 10 games on Friday, Oct. 16: Folsom plays at Oak Ridge, and Buchanan plays Central East.

Folsom and Oak Ridge is a Sierra Foothill League rivalry, and Folsom has owned it. The Bulldogs have won 25 straight meetings, including two last season. Oak Ridge's last win in the series came on Sept. 15, 2006, 47-28.

But this is one of the best Oak Ridge teams in recent memory. It opened the season with a 27-26 win at Argyle in Texas, and Argyle has not lost since: it is 6-1 and ranked seventh in Texas by MaxPreps. Oak Ridge's only losses are to Central East and Tabor Academy.
