Folsom Blocked Two Kicks and Needed Overtime to Beat Cardinal Newman

CJ Wallace's 99-yard kickoff return and a blocked field goal kept SPIN's No. 44 alive at 23-17

FOLSOM, Calif. — Brody Rudnicki took five straight direct snaps in overtime and ran the last one in. That is how SPIN's No. 44 got out of its own building.

Rudnicki had thrown five yards to Travis Beatty earlier. CJ Wallace's 99-yard kickoff return to open the second half gave Folsom its first lead of the night.

Cardinal Newman had a 37-yard field goal from Devon Taylor to win it in regulation. Oscar Gonzalez blocked it. Folsom blocked two kicks in the game.

Under the California overtime rule the ball starts at the 25. Folsom got it, Rudnicki carried it five times, and it was over.

Joe Davidson of the Sacramento Bee had the sequence and the full house at Prairie City Stadium. The Press Democrat's headline said Cardinal Newman pushed Folsom to the brink, and it did.
